The Ruffian  name  was  used  for the  first  time  by Clayton  Harriman from Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Harriman's Ch.The Ruffian was breed  by F.C. Klump  from Plymouth Michigan. It was  born  from  Klump's Deuce and Klump's  Dina and it  was give birth  in  1938. The Ruffian  was a  dog with white black  stains,  its    weight  was   59   pounds.  Calamity   Ann the female, from Mr. Harriman too, was  born from Schroeder's Jiggs e Sch roeder's  Kay. The mix  between  Ruffian  and  Calamity   Ann  generated Ch. Ruffian Headlinght and Ch. Ruffian  Our  Teenie.  Then  Mr.  Harriman used them for generate Ch.  Ruffian    Walkaway   and  Ch.   Ruffian   Dread  naught. Harriman  kept  by himself Walkaway, and  left Dreadnaught to Mrs. W.D. (Peggy) Harper from  San Antonio, Texas Ch. Ruffian Headling  was  sold to  Mr. Bill  Whitaker  from  Columbus Ohio.  Using  Ch.  Ruffian  Dreadnaughtm  Headlinght  Hal   generated    Puddinpie  Blue  Smoke e Pud dinpie   Pepperduster.  These  two  female  was  taken ill  by the  distemper  when they  were  only puppy.  Even if  they  were  never   being  showed  because of the dental   discolouration they became much   important  for  the  next   develop   of  the  strain  Under the supervision  of  Mr.  Whita ker,  they  were  used  for  two extremally   importants coupling. Pepper duster  wa  used  with  its mother's  ouncle Ch.  Ruffian   Walkaway. The  big Ch.  Gallant  Ruffian was from this couple. Ruff  was  sold to Mr.  E.C. Ringold di  Decatur Georgia. Puddinpie Blue Smoke was used with Walka way,   this   couple    generated    Ch.  Scamperpuss,  the  first   female  who wins  the National Speciality of  the U.S.A.  Staffordshire  Terrier  Club. Then Mr. Whitaker used  Jolly  Scamperpuss    with  Gallant   Ruff  and  produced  Ch. Jollyscamp Bluegard. These breedings    maked   the   basis  of  the  Ruffian strain and are still dominant on the   Ruffians   pedigrees.  We can say thatClayton Harriman and Bill  Whitaker  founded  the  strain  that  for several years were  kept  on  by  Mrs.   Harper.   Her   kennel  of Har-Wyn, S.Antonio, was for  several  years   the  biggest   and  the  top producer  of  the winning  dogs  of  the   country.  From the best dog of Har - Wyn  we  can  find   Ch.  Sky  King of  Har-Wyn,  winner  for  three times of the NationalSpeciality;  Ch.Ruffian Hercules of  Har-Wyn the top producer of  Ruffian's Champions,  anda Ch. Ruffian Red  Rock of Har- Wyn, the dog most showed of  the history  of  breeding. Mr Ringold was active breeder for a long time in the  Stafs  and   he   was  succefull. His Gallant  kennel    produced,   with a  little  number  of  dogs  the  Stafs, winner of  shows,  very  intelligent   and  with a  great temperament. With the  acquisition of   the   Gallant  Ruff  begins  his modern program of breeding.Through the years hid  dogs mainteni  ned its relation   with  the   Ruffian  strain. The  gene   were  being influenced also by same blo od of  Crusader  Strain,  from  Ch.  Knight Crusader to it son,   Ch. Gallant Kimbo. Ch. Gallant Kimbo  appears in a lot of  courrent  pedigrees  keeping the  Gallant  prefix.  It' s remarkable  that either  Knight  Crusader  and Gallant Kimbo kept its big force  and good health  even if they   were  not  very young.  The  Ruffian  Strain was  important for  its  influence  in Cali fornia with some of  dogs  like Mounthaven Tiara  of  Lylane   Ch.  Ruffian Rudy from  Har-Wyn  (the Ch  Indian  Doc  and  Ch.  Archer' s  Dare  Devil' s  father)  and  with  Ch. Mounthaven  Tex  from  Har - Wyn.  U.D.  Tiara  Rudy and Tex were Howard and Janice Hadley's dogs.  Ch. Indian  Doc and  Ch.  Archer's Dare Devil were breeding by Dorothy Archer.
